Schools Just Want to Have Fun(ds)
This past Friday the Joint Committee on Education held their first hearing on the long-sought update to the education funding formula. The foundation budget funding formula was established in 1993 and has not been updated since then. The intended goal was to close the inequalities between wealthy and economically disadvantaged communities, yet wide disparities continue to exist today.
Representative Robinson is a cosponsor of the PROMISE Act, sponsored by Senator Sonia Chang-Diaz (D-Boston), Representative Mary Keefe (D-Worcester), and Representative Aaron Vega (D-Holyoke). The PROMISE Act aims to modernize the formula to provide adequate support for English learners, low income students, and special education costs.
Representative Robinson and Representative Lewis submit joint written testimony to explain the benefits that the Framingham would receive upon passage of the bill:
Change can't wait. Our students deserve better. Like the great Cyndi Lauper (sort of) once said "Schools just want to have fun(ds)."
